Now on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early (still dark) and saw that the stone had be removed. She ran to Simon Peter and the other disciples, told them they had taken away the Lord and we do not know where. Hearing this Peter and one other went toward the tomb. The other disciple out ran Peter coming first, he stooped down and looked inside and saw the linen clothe (Jesus was wrapped in) lying there but he did not enter. Simon Peter did go in and saw the linen clothes and the burial napkin that had been around Jesus' head was still rolled up and set apart by itself. The other disciple then went in saw was convinced and believed. They knew not the scripture that he must rise again from the dead. They left and went home. Mary stood outside the tomb weeping, as she wept she stooped down and looked inside and saw 2 angels in white. One at the head, the other at the feet where the body of Jesus had lain. They asked why she weeps. She said because they had taken away my Lord and I don't know where, he has been taken. When she turned around, she saw Jesus but did not know it was Him. Jesus asked Women why weepest thou? Whom seekest thou? Thinking he was the gardener, asked if he had taken Him away and where, tell her and she would take him away. Jesus called her by name. Mary looked at him and said Master. Jesus said Touch me not for I am not yet ascended to my Father, but go to my brethen and say unto them I ascend unto my Father, and your Father and to my God and your God. She went and told them that she had seen the Lord and he spoke these things to her. That same evening the disciples were shut up (locked) together in a room. Jesus came and stood in the midst and said, Peace be unto you, he then showed them his hands and side. The disciples were glad when they saw it was the Lord. Jesus said again, Peace be unto you as my Father hath sent me even so send I you, he breathed on them and said, Receive ye the Holy Ghost. Who soever sins ye remit they are remitted unto them and whose soever sins ye retain they are retained. Thomas one of the 12 was not there. The others told him they had seen Him. Thomas said Except I see the print of the nails in his hands and thrust my hand in his side I will not believe. Eight days late all the disciples including Thomas were together as before. Jesus again came and said Peace be unto you, he told Thomas Reach hither thy finger and behold my hands, Reach hither thy hand and thrust it into my side, and be not faithless but believing. Thomas answered my Lord and my God. Jesus said, Thomas because thou hast seen me and hath believed, blessed are they that have not seen and yet have believed.
Note: This is where the saying Don't be a doubting Thomas comes from. John ends his account of the Resurrection by noting that Jesus did many signs in front of the disciples that he did not write about but that those he did write about was so we would believe.
