On the first day of the week, at dawn the women went to the tomb, taking spices which they had made ready. They found the stone rolled away. They went inside, but did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While wondering what to do, two men in dazzling raiment (white robes) suddenly stood there. Frightened they bowed their faces to the ground. The men said why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here but risen. Remember He told you while He was in Galilee the Son of Man must be given into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise. They then remembered. They told the 11 apostles (disciples) and all the rest when they returned, Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James and the other women with them, the men did not believe. Peter did go to the tomb to see for himself, he saw the linen clothes only. On the same day 2 of the disciples walking and talking about what they heard came upon Jesus but they did not recognize him. He asked what they were talking about. Cleopas asked did he not know about what happened to Jesus of Nazareth, how he had been sentenced to death and crucified. That He was their hope. Now on the third day the women who went to the tomb, not finding his body returned saying that the angels told them He was alive. Some of the men went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said. Jesus called them foolish for being slow to believe what the prophets had said that it was necessary for Christ to suffer before entering into His Glory. He explained to them the scriptures concerning/referring to Himself. They urged Him to stay with them, at the meal he took bread gave praise, thanks, asked for blessing then broke it and gave it to them, at this moment they recognized Him then He vanished. They went back found and told the 11 and the others with them what had happened. While they were talking, Jesus stood among them and said Peace be to you. Afraid they thought it was a spirit. He asked why they were afraid and why they doubted, told them to see he had hands and feet, to feel him he was flesh and bones spirits were not. He asked for food, they gave it and He ate. He opened their minds to understand the scriptures, remain there he would send what was promised, blessed them and departed into heaven. They worshiped him and went back to the city with great joy, thereafter they were always in the Temple giving praise and blessing God.
Note: It is written Christ shall suffer and on the third day rise that repentance, forgiveness of sins should be preached in His name.
Question:
Who were they that Jesus said were witnesses?
Where was it that they were to remain?
What was it that He would send what His Father had promised?
Was your heart slow to believe?
How strong is your faith in the Word?
Do you daily give praises and blessings (thanks) to God?
There is hope
